Splendid views and a private sandy beach are among the many highlights of the Beach Lodge - the king of log homes.
If you've ever dreamt of the quintessential Canadian log home, the Beach Lodge is it. This 3500 sq. ft. home was built with spectacular hand-chiseled logs, some of which are 60 feet long and 2 feet thick. The design is open concept, with cathedral ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows. The log home is nestled amongst the trees, well above the high tide mark, and it enjoys picture-perfect views of St. Margaret's Bay and nearby islands.
The private beach, known locally as "Anne Murray's Beach", is shared by the occupants of only one other home, Cliffhanger House, which sits on an adjoining property. The sandy beach is protected, and perfect for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and beach combing. And just around the corner, only a few minutes walk down the road, is Paddy's Head, widely considered to be one of the best scuba diving sites in Nova Scotia.
The property sits on approximately 6 acres of very private forested oceanfront land, and also features a large saltwater pond that hosts a variety of wildlife species and seabirds.
The open concept main floor boasts a large living room, kitchen, and dining area. The living room has an impressive fireplace, and floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the bay. The country style kitchen is a chef's delight, with granite countertops, a large island and all the modern appliances and tools you will need to cook up a storm. Two double bedrooms, and a full bathroom with a claw foot tub, make up the rest of the main floor plan.
A sizeable deck sits just off of the dining area and is perfect for enjoying a meal alfresco, or for simply enjoying the peace and tranquility of Nova Scotia nature at its best.
Upstairs, the open and spacious loft-style master bedroom looks down over the main floor and enjoys the most spectacular views of the ocean. The ensuite master bathroom offers an extra-large tiled shower, and enters into a large walk-in closet.
The finished lower level has a luxurious family room, perfect for relaxing or watching a movie on the large flat-screen TV. And if you're coming in from a swim in the ocean, why not jump into the tiled shower/steam room before heading upstairs. It's also worth mentioning that there is a utility room with a washer and dryer on this level. » Read Testimonials from the 2010 Guestbook

Summer 2011
We have had a lovely time here at the Beach Lodge. Our two sons loved the beach and the calm sea. The home is very comfortable and we have felt very much at home.
We would have liked warmer and less foggy weather but it has been a very quiet and relaxing end to our month long trip to Canada and Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia was a great place to end on. Thank you for the lovely place to stay.

What an amazing two weeks we have spent at your beautiful cottage. It's been so nice to have a place that feels like home to spend quiet days at, as well as explore all N.S. has to offer. We found the place very child friendly an our two young boys will certainly miss the beach in their backyard.
We hope to return and to create more wonderful memories in years to come.

This was our first extended visit to Nova Scotia, and we had a wonderful time! Everything about the house was terrific - it was an excellent base for day trips. We went into Halifax on several days and saw the Navy Centennial events - loved the Tattoo! Also headed south to see Mahone Bay & Lunenburg. We attended a Ceilidh in Hubbards celebrating Canada Day on our way home.
We really loved the "Beach Lodge". The sunsets were beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed the natural beauty surrounding it. The bay birds were interesting to watch. And, even the fog was amazing to watch roll in and out. We had one truly rainy day. Which made us appreciate the sunny ones all that much more. Besides that, our kids have reported that we are having a "heat wave" at home (…), so we are thrilled to be savoring crisp, cool days here.
This has been a memorable week in so many ways. We will recall, our time here with great fondness. Thanks!

Had a wonderful and fantastic 1st half of our annual summer vacation. Amazing vistas from the cottage while drinking wine/coffee were out of sight. Great sea kayaking to Dover Island & much wild life … Mink, seals, Pilot whale, rabbits etc. Really enjoyed Peggy's Cove. Kids had a blast climbing the huge rock out cropping of boulders.
We eventually braved the water and swimming was actually enjoyable. Cold, but as the say "once you get used to it, it's okay".
Enjoyed Fish and Chips at the "Finer Diner". Racing and cooking our own lobsters from "Ryers". Also try Pizza, Fish and Chips from Re Cardos.
Excellent location: Lighthouse Highway/Route, close to Halifax, Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, Hubbards. Great Golf Glen Arbour: 25 minutes away.
Cannot think of a more enjoyable holiday than here at the Beach Lodge. Amazing Fog rolling in daily, dazzling sunsets and crashing surf visible beyond the point as shut in island. I am sure we will return. Too bad we cannot take the lodge and transplant it back to P. (Ontario). Memories of summer 2010 will have to do for now. Many thanks for a great week of fun, sun, surf and relaxation.

We had a fabulous week relaxing at your beautiful cottage. The setting is fantastic and we had some amazing sunsets. We enjoyed the local lobsters a couple of times and ate fabulous seafood all week. We were lucky to have great weather - hot and sunny with not one day of rain. Having the beach was great for the kids and they spent a lot of time exploring and finding the seashells. It was a wonderful holiday and we hope to return to Nova Scotia soon to explore more of its beautiful coves and villages.

We had a wonderful time in your beautifully furnished house - we especially loved the Asian touches and the antiqued pieces. Our grandsons, aged one and three, loved "blooping" rocks in the water: the beach was terrific.
Like everyone else, we enjoyed sunsets and generally beautiful views. Rock-scampering at Peggy's Cove was a big bit. The Swissair Memorial was moving. We remember when it took off from JFK 12 years ago.
You have a gorgeous home on a gorgeous site. What wonderful aesthetic elements. Our son played the bass downstairs overlooking the water.

Our time here has come to a close far to quickly. We have spent the entire day enjoying this gorgeous cottage and beach. This was our first visit to Nova Scotia and have been extremely happy to have stayed in this little gem!
Peggy's Cove is such an amazing spot and we visited almost daily. The sunsets…Wow!
To the next family…We hope you have as much fun here as we did.

We have had a wonderful time here in this beautiful house. It has been a fantastic introduction to Nova Scotia for us and we hope to return soon!
Our boys have loved the beach and clambering over the rocks. The sunsets and sense of peace here have been good for the soul!
Thank you for sharing your house with us. What a perfect base for exploring the region.
We recommend the "Finer Diner" for a relaxed meal. Great fish.

Words cannot convey how beautiful this place is! What a stunning house and what a breathtaking location. From the moment we walked through the door, all the pressures of everyday life melted away.
We've had the best time staying here with friends and exploring the area with them. The weather has been fantastic, sunshine every day, apart from one morning when it rained, and even that did not diminish the experience!
There are some great places to eat, notably at Shining Waters, the marina up the road, and the Trellis Café in Hubbards.
The only negatives were that the week went by too quickly, and that we don't own this wonderful house!
Thanks for a great stay!
